LISE LEINO
BEHIND THE LENS
Lise Leino, originally from Finland, has spent close to three decades in the UK, with a year in Western Australia, and currently calls London home. Her journey into photography began while working on various TV and film productions, including TFI Friday as a camera assistant and through her drama studies, where she discovered her passion for capturing the essence of people.
In 2013, Lise won a photography competition at The Art Gallery of Western Australia, leading her to New York and the Museum of Modern Art—a pivotal experience that solidified her commitment to photography. Since then, her work has been showcased in exhibitions across Bristol and South Devon, and her photographs frequently appear on the BBC website. Notably, "Mila's Favourite Shoes" was featured among the BBC's Pictures of the Year in 2013, and she received a joint first prize at the Women in Photography exhibition in the South West.
Lise is a graduate of The New York Institute of Photography and has garnered further accolades, including most recently the Portrait of Britain award Vol. 7.
Lise is deeply interested in learning from indigenous tribes, as their perspectives on ownership and connection to nature challenge conventional views and emphasize a sacred understanding of the natural world. This insight inspires her to explore themes of cultural identity and the interconnectedness of all living things. Through her powerful visual narratives, Lise aims to capture the beauty, strength, and spirit of individuals, bridging cultural gaps and inviting viewers to reflect on their own relationship with the world.
